I had a hard time deciding which of this author's works to read first as there were memoirs, biographies, and sport-themed stories to choose from among others, but I settled on this story given that the book description sounded interesting and I wasn't disappointed! Seems Dad has a gambling problem given this amusing passage "Because if I don't slither up to that innocent young ear to whisper my filth, what's going to become of me." Author writes an engaging tale so long as you can tolerate the language which actually helps define the character in this book. Had to laugh when I read "You've heard about this idea that people are always getting promoted beyond their level of competence? Well, I'm the A-number-one classic example." Story has a true life feel to it and am looking forward to more fun reads from this author as a result.Product details

What begins as an entertaining story wastes no time demonstrating how quickly and devastatingly any addiction can take even the most important relationships in our lives and cash them in for one more dip in the well. All this with an ending twisted as neatly as a salt water taffy wrapper...or something.
Funny story, but because it's the first time I've read anything by this author, not sure how to take his racist banter! Most likely it's just part of the character, but I'll read more by him to find out! Otherwise, I liked the story and the style.
